"FLORES LINDAS"

Wall Hanging
Made with hand painted fabric and commercial fabric.
Machine pieced, machine applique, free motion quilting. 21"x21"
Quilts by Marisela original design.

About two weeks ago I took a great class with quilt artist Linda Cooper - you have no idea how much fun I had, plus, she is adorable!   One of the things she taught us was how to paint our own fabric using the “Ombre technique” to create very gentle changes in the shades of the colors. I was surprised to find it was not as difficult as I thought it would be.  So, this is the result of my first project from her class: the striped background started out being just white fabric but is now all hand-painted from pink to very light pink and has touches of blue, then I did the flowers appliqué.  I am looking forward to my next class with her.

"SURVIVOR"

This quilt is the example for the class "FREE MOTION QUILTING, BASICS AND MORE” that I teach.

If you want to start quilting tops with something other than just straight lines, then you are ready to take this class. I will share with you my tips, tricks and secrets.  After just a couple of hours of practice you will feel confident enough to go ahead and do your own free motion quilting and watch your projects really take off.  You will see that you can do it all on your own home machine and you will enjoy it as much as I do!

Not one part of this "Survivor" was marked before quilting, everything was done "free". The quilt is machine pieced, and machine applique; using Bottom Line thread on the front and King Tut thread on the back.

Here is the picture of the first group of quilters that took my class. They are free motion quilters now.

If want to be a free motion quilter too, I will be happy to teach you. Send me an email quiltsbymarisela@gmail.com or give me a call 703-587-4370.

A minimum of 3 students is required for a group class, but individual classes can also be arranged.

Smile and quilt,
Marisela

"STEVEN'S QUILT"

Wall Hanging
Made out of size 2T shirts.
Machine pieced, machine applique, free motion quilting.

I am very excited because this weekend I am going to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton, VA to attend some classes and lectures.  More importantly, I will be able to deliver in person a memory quilt to our dear friends Theo and Maria.  I cannot even begin to express how honored I am that they trusted me with this project.  With so much love in every stitch, from me, to the Gouletas family.

"FRIENDSHIPS THAT LAST"

Wall Hanging
Machine Pieced, Free Motion Quilted. 32"x45"

How early can someone start a friendship?  More importantly: how do you make it last?  I've been privileged to have my dear friend, Ruth, at my side since we were six years old. I just finished this quilt that will live at her house as a symbol of enduring love and friendship.

"18 PARPARIM FOR CHAI"

Wall hanging
Machine pieced, machine applique (with applications of cord and yarn), free motion quilting. 60"x35"
Quilts by Marisela original design.

The number 18 and its multiples are lucky because in Hebrew, the numeric value of the letters in the word chai (life) adds up to 18. I hope these 18  parparim (butterflies) bring lots of luck and joy to the family in whose home this quilt will lovingly reside.

My friend, Debbie, told me a couple days ago that she and her mom have a contest: the one who dies with the most accumulated fabric in her quilting studio, wins.... It really made me laugh, and I hope no one wins soon, but now that I think about it, I can be a very good contestant too. It´s really impressive how much fabric a quilter accumulates little by little... and it becomes our treasure.
